There are experienced people, with specialist skills but they give them a job description that doesn’t translate to what’s practically expected. Or they don’t give them a job description at all. This results in too many opinions, gaps of ownership, reduced productivity, frustration, and a fragmented culture.

Those businesses that operate in a ‘protect the homework’ way. Keep information close and share little or only sporadically with their teams. Messages pass via word of mouth and become distorted, or everything happens via email creating delays and tension. Simply, communication is inefficient.

This is dangerous. Even with the most efficient processes, even if the customers are queuing at the door, it means nothing if your team are mentally detached. They can be your raving fans, they make the main difference to your success, but if you are treating them as just a number… that’s a slippery slope.

Yes, I’m going to say it. The same people have the same seat at the table, they make all the decisions - again and again. Rinse and repeat works for so long, it may even feel safe, but the pace of change is fast and you don’t want to drop down the league or even worse, become extinct.
